KAPONGA HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A beautiful mild day fell to the lot of the Society for their popular show. The exhibits, though not quite as large as last year, were in many instances above the standard. The pot plants anrl cut flowers, though fair in number (74), caused keen judging, Mrs J. H. Frethey's championship exhibit being simply superb, and reflecting the greatest credit upon that energetic lady. The farm and garden produce, as usual, was well represented. The potato exhibits were excellent, no less than 47 being shown, the quality and shape being good. All the other sections were well contested, the show throughout being voted good. After judging, lunch was partaken of by the judges and stewards, Mr and Mrs McGuire also being present. The doors being thrown open, the public soon filled the hall. Mr McGuire, in opening the show, referred to the good work being done by this and other kindred societies, and complimented the officers, ladies, and gentlemen connected with the Society on working in the interest of the whole district. In conclusion, he thanked the Society for being invited to open the fifth annual show. The takings at the door in the afternoon totalled L 7 18s 6d, and evening Ll4 14s 6d, refreshments L 8 18s, which establishes a record. At the conclusion of the evening, a gift auction of exhibits donated by exhibitors waa held, most of the lines selling freely. Appended is the prize list : —
