FREEMAN R. JACKSON AND CO.'S JOHNSONVILLE REPORT.

Wanganui, February 21. At Waverley, on Friday last, we had a large yarding. Bidding was brisk throughout, and most lines of cattle were disposed of. A good inquiry for steers suitable for the fattening paddock still exists, and good sorts would sell readily. A good yarding of sheep (principally lambs) came forward, and nearly all sold at firm prices. At St. Hill street, yesterday, we had a good yarding. Bidding was fairly brisk for several pens of cattle, which sold readily. Several other lots, owners' reserves being too high, had to be turned out unsold. Sheep were all sold, with the exception of a couple of pens. A good yarding of pigs came forward, and sold well. AUCKLAND PRODUCE REPORT. There is a good demand for Hobart potatoes and Derwents, the value being about 2s 9d to 3s at the rail. In oats, the Waikato is reaping the benefit of the trade with the goldmining district. It is said that the quality of their oats this year is good, and they are expeoting good prices all through. Local Duns are offering in small quantities at about 2s Gd, but there is no regular quotation. Stocks of Southern oats are very light, and none can be got from Otago and Southlands as they are completely out until arrival of new crops about April. In the meantime supplies are drawn from Canterbury, but it is difficult to get quotations for any quantity, aud what is offered is at an advance on the opening prices quoted a few weeks ago. We hear of sales for March delivery at equivalent to 2s 8d c.i.f. The present price here is 3s to 3s Id ex store. There is a very good inquiry for grass seed, and it is reported that there are very good burns this year. The > anticipated shortage in cocksfoot and ryegrass is already making itself felt in the higher prices the seed-growers are asking. All prices are expected to rule very firm. — Auokland Weekly News. DAIRY PRODUCE. The exports of dairy produce, the Wellington Post says, for the four months eneed 31st January, compared with tho figures for the corresponding period of last year, exhibit a substantial increase, the expansion being, however, confined to butter, the exports of cheese showing a slight decrease. The exports of butter show as under :— 1901-2. 1900-1. £. £. October .. 45,200 30,044 November .. 110 866 106,825 December .. 169,379 133,662 January .. 201,815 116,903 527,260 387,434 These figures show that 27,0140wt more butter has been exported this season, and the greater proportion of this increase was secured in the last month. The increase in the first three months was only 8149cwt, while for January the increase is 18,8650wt. There has been an extra demand from South Africa, and this probably accounts for the sudden increase. It is apparent, however, that winter supplies have been unduly drawn upon ; if so, there is every reason to anticipate «oaroity in the winter and high prices for local consumption. The local butter market is hardening, and winter contracts are being made on a higher basis. The exports of cheese for the two seasons compare as under : — 1901-2. 1900-1. £. £. Ootober .. .. 5974 1772 November .. 4155 13,479 December .. 18,808 18,195 January.. .. 24,323 28,727 53,260 62,173 AUSTRALIAN PRODUCE MARKET. Sxdney, February 19.
