r • *- . . t EGMONT R.C. MEETING. ' SECOND* DAY. Although the appearance of the pro1 ceding night did not hold out any great promise for the next day, Thursday was ■ favoured by good weather, and the 1 attendance to view the second day's racing of the Egmont Racing Club was large. As a matter of fact, the meeting I was one of the most successful held . under the Club's auspices. As on the : first day, all the officials worked hard. Tho Borough Band was again in attend1 ance. The well-appointed tea pavilion, > under Mr J. P. Keen's management, , was simply rushed by the ladies. The i racing was interesting, and Mr Henrys' work came in for much favourable comment. Bowman and Okoari were the popular fancies for the Waimate Handicap, and justified the confidence , placed in them, finishing first and 1 second respectively. The finish of the . Hack Hurdle Bace was well worth [ seeing, being fought out determinedly, the Third Hack Flat was exciting, but 1 the Atkinson Memorial Stakes was the best contested of a series of closely 1 run races. Battleaxe's win under i 9.13 was a meritorous one, albeit i he settled Taplow by a bare nose. . Kaiwhakaroa deserved his win in the ( Hurdles, though old Hautonga put him a very determined question. Convoy won the Fourth Hack Flat like a 1 workman, while Beau. Ideal appro1 priated the Normanby Stakes without 1 trouble. The Hack Scurry brought to . light a speedy customer in Sandy (or ; is it Sanday ?) by Soult — Lauralea. : The amount put through the v tote " for the day was and for both 1 days £15,987, an increase of £2494 on last year. The only unfortunate thing during ; the meeting was the death from heart ( failure of Lasting in the Normanby Stakes, and his owner, Mr J. George, is to be sincerely commiserated. In ' the same race old Sedgebrook broke down. , Results : — 1 Waimate Handicap of lOOsovs, second i horse to receive 15sovs from the : stake. Seven furlongs. - 198 Mr C. E. Sylvia Park [ delayed the start a little bit, but the 1 field were eventually sent off on faitly • even terms. Torowai and Lady Bell p were the first into prominence, and at 1 half the distance they were joined by , Sylvia Paik. Okoari was running last, . but Gallagher set her going, and she " began moving through her horaes. In the meantime Bowman had moved close to Torowai, and a cloße set-to i commenced as the trio came along the ! home strttch. Bowman, well handled , by Jenkins, was not to be denied, and , though Okoari fought out a good finish she suffered defeat by three parts of a length; Torowai a good third. Time, • 1.29£. Total, 1065.
