Although the appearance of the pro1 ceding night did not hold out any great promise for the next day, Thursday was ■ favoured by good weather, and the 1 attendance to view the second day's racing of the Egmont Racing Club was large. Hack Hurdle Bace was well worth [ seeing, being fought out determinedly, the Third Hack Flat was exciting, but 1 the Atkinson Memorial Stakes was the best contested of a series of closely 1 run races. Battleaxe's win under i 9.13 was a meritorous one, albeit i he settled Taplow by a bare nose. . Kaiwhakaroa deserved his win in the ( Hurdles, though old Hautonga put him a very determined question. Convoy won the Fourth Hack Flat like a 1 workman, while Beau. Ideal appro1 priated the Normanby Stakes without 1 trouble.
