CRICKET. THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM FOR ENGLAND.

Received February 21, 0.52 a.m. Adelaide, February 20. Much dissatisfaction existß locally at the selection of Carter as second wicket keeper for the team to visit England, and the non- selection of McKenzie. Complaintß come from other sources that it is apparent there was an intention to ignore the claims of South Australian playerß for inclusion in the team. The match Star 11. v. Eltham 11. was played yesterday (Thursday), on the Recreation Ground, Hawera, and ended in a victory for the visitors on the first innings by 27 runs. Star went in first and made 40, Eltham replied with 67. In the second innings Star had nine wickets down for 67 at call of time. The match, being unfinished, was decided on first innings.

Our Eltham correspondent writes : — The Eltham Juniors were warmly congratulated on yesterday's win. The team have played consistently throughout the season, and to the genial captain, Mr I. Salmon, much of their success is due, his " coaching " having been excellent. The team to play off with the Northern end will" be strengthened by the inclusion of two or three new men, and it is quite on the cards that the Cup will come to Eltham. It is to be hoped employers will strain a point, and allow employees to get away to the games.
