MELANCHOLY AFFAIR.
(per pbess assooution.) Auckland, February 19. A man named William Cook, 32 years of age, committed suicide to-day by shooting himself in the head with a revolver. Deceased, who had arrived on Sunday last, from, Dunedin, by the Elingamite, sought out his wife, who had left him five weeks previously, and met her to-day at noon by arrangement in order to confer with solicitor about obtaining a divorce. The man told her he had been informed they would have to go to Dunedin to obtain a decree, and then accompanied his wife to her house. On arrival there he shot himself in her presence. A letter was found on him, showing that the act was premeditated. —^———^——
