THE TEST MATCH.
PRESS COMMENTS. Received February 19, 10.31 a.m. Sydney. February 19. The Daily Telegraph says that, deprived of the services of their best bowler, and admittedly weak in that department, the English players were palpably handicapped, though whether to such an extent as to commensurate for such a crushing defeat is for experts to «ay, as it must be remembered that the Australians achieved one of their victories under an equal deprivation. In the inatoh just concluded there were some compensations to the Englishmen, such as the extraordinary bowling auosess of Jessop. The collapse was doubtless asoribable, partly to the excellence of the bowling, and partly to the infectiqus rot which often irresistibly impels the bravest mon to run because their neighbours do so. However, it is worth while remembering that vanquishing McLaren's team does not mean the defeat of representative English cricketers. The following will represent Stars on Saturday against Hawera: Haggett, Hobson, McCarthy, Elliott (2), Sargent, Webby (2), A'Court, Jessop, Hurrell. Hawera team: Bayly, Burke, Butts, Campbell, Clementson, Glasgow, Goodson, Jennings, Page, Pratt, Stevenson.
