GUN CLUB MEETING.

After we went to press yesterday the match was continued, and for the big handicap there were a large number of ties. The results were as follows : —

There were four or five other competitors who, however, were not "in it." Eight men with ten nominations tied and took £5 each, and for a balance of £20 10s shot off, with the result that Gorrick (two nominations), Black, and Douglas tied, and drew, respectively, £10 5s and £5 2s 6d each. A sweepstake of £1 each was then fired, for which there were fourteen entries. McVinish, F. A. Quin, Minhinnick, Clements, Hunter, and McLean killed all their birds, and divided the stakes equally. Mr C. A. Budge was referee, and Mr De Clifton secretary, and got through their work satisfactorily to all. The feature of the meeting was the shooting of Mr C. H. Gorrick, of New South Wales, who won on both nominations in the big handicap, acd also in firing off, and put up a record for New Zealand by killing 36 birds without a miss off the 33yds mark, the farthest back, we believe, that any man has yet shot from in this colony. 31 yards used to be tbe maximum, and then 32, but this is the first time it has been made 33. He is wonderfully quick in his sight;, and usually kills before the bird has time to rise more than a yard or bo from the trap. He distinguished himself in Wellington last week by killing 49 out of 50 at 32yds. Sinoe landing in New Zealand on 23rd January he has, from 32 and 33 yards, killed in matches 103 out of 104 birds, and the 104 th fell dead out of bounds. A great record. He uses a W. Powell gun, and Curtis and Harvey cartridge specially filled with amberite powder, to which in conversation with a Star reporter he modestly attributes much of his success.
