EDUCATION BOARD.

BUILDING GRANT. A letter was received from the Eduoation Department to the effect that the balance of the building grant of £2075 was paid. PATEA DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. It was resolved to communicate with the Patea Committee so soon as a reply bad been received from the Dspartment, and to notify tbe Committee that no funds were available for painting the interior. ALTON. Eesolved, to erect additional accommodation for another 40 scholars. STANDARD VII. Besolved, That Standard VII. pupils be not taught in the following schools: — Wanganui Girls', Aramobo, Mosstown, Oastlecliff, Mars Hill, Okoia, Upokongaro, Westmere, Kaitoke, Upper Tutaenui, Crofton, Greatford, , South Makirikiri, West Bangitikei, Normanby, Makino Road, Upper Taonui, and Lyttou street. ELTHAM. Board does not see the necessity for holding an inquiry, as suggested by the head teacher. HAWERA. Besolved, to apply to the Government for model rifleß for the cadet corps. It was also deoided to write to the department re the attendance of pupils at the Hawera District High School, and ask whether 70 or 80 per cent, is to be accepted ; forms to be supplied to the Committee, parents to sign agreeing to pay feeß. DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL FEES. Besolved, That the motion passed at last meeting re District High School fees (that the fees payable by those who have not passed the sixth standard be £6 per year) should not apply for this year to any of the District High Schools open before tbe i beginning of this year. It was explained > that the Government gave a grant of £6 per year to those who had passed the sixth standard. BOARD OFFICERS. A report was adopted whioh recommended :— That the salary of Dr. Smyth be fixed at L 450 per annum, and Mr Milne at I L 340 per annum, from March Ist, 1902, with travelling expenses of Ll5O per annum each. That the present engagements of the secretary (Mr Browne), tbe assistant (Mr Careon), and the architect (Mr Atkins) be terminated. That Mr Carson be appointed secretary at L2OO per annum from March Ist, 1902, in addition to the salaries paid from the Technical School and Boaid of Governors. That Mr Browne be appointed assistant secretary for twelve months at £225 per annum from March Ist, 1902, in addition to the salaries paid him from the Technical School and Board of Governors. That applications be invited from architects to the Board for eaoh of three districta, as herein defined : No. 1, Hawera district, north of the Waitotara river; No. 2, between Waitotara and Bangitikei rivers ; No. 3, south of the Bangitikei river. PALMERBTON. Besolved, that the Board apply to the Education Department for £150 for the erection of a laboratory at College Street School for instruction in science to teachers' classes, and a Bum of £800 for the erection of accommodation for 150 pupils for the District High School out of the vote for the erection of school in newly settled districts.—Herald.
