GUN CLUB MEETING.

The summer meeting of the Egmont Gun Club is being held to-day, in Douglas' paddock. Weather is excellent, and all conditions in favor of good shooting, while, unfortunately, the birds are very slow and dull. Club officials complain that though the birds were put on board the train at Wellington on Friday they did not, owing to some delay at Palmerston, reach Hawera until Monday evening, and were in consequence very weak. The shooting, which in any case would have been good, is therefore still more deadly, very few getting away, bo many competitors had at time of going to press full scores that it is difficult to say who would be prizetakers. Gorrick, the Australian, is shooting very finely, Chavannes is hardly up to usual form, but several local men, notably Moore Hunter, are to the fore. The attendance during the early part of the day was very moderate, but improved this afternoon. Bey. J. Dukes and Mr E. Dizon leave for Dunedin to-morrow, to attend the Methodist Conference. At a publio meeting at Greymouth, a committee wbb formed to co-operate with other centres in organising a colonial fund for a presentation to the Premier in recognition of his services to the Empire in despatching contingents to South Africa. It was suggested that subscriptions be limited to Is, and that labour organisations and local bodies be asked to attend. Names of members of the Fire Polio 6 are published. Married couple wanted. Everybody ought to know that Messrs Hardley and Sons have on view the largest and best selection of cooking ranges in the district, including aruorg others Barningham's and Shacklock's, makes of high and low pressure, suitable for brick chimneys or open kitchens at Dunedin prices — Advt
