MORE ABOUT THE TREATY.
Received February 14, 10.40 a.m. London, February 7 18. The Japanese Diet greeted the announcement of the treaty with tremendous cheers.
The Japanese press declares that it will assist peace.
Chinese statesmen are surprised and delight6d, as the treaty gives British prestiga a tremendous impulse. Diplomatists at Peking predict, as a consequence of the Anglo-Japanese alliance, that the Manchurian treaty between Russia and China will not be signed.
German newspapers unanimously represent the treaty as a distinot check to Russia and rather advantageous to Germany.
The Paris newspaper Debats says Britain has achieved a great success in Manchuria, and the opinion is that the •• open door " policy is secured by the British-Japanese alliance, whioh will be of value in protecting Britain's important interests. X
Cassini says the treaty will neither hasten nor retard the evacuation of Manchuria.
