CABLE LAYING.
Received February 14, 9.50 a.m.
Pkbth, Febraary 14. The cable steamer Scotia has aboard fifteen hundred miles of cables. After this is laid the cable staff join the steamer Andlia which will lay the Pacific cable between Brisbane, Norfolk Island, and New Zealand.
Melboubnb, February 14. A deep water pier, which cost fifteen thousand pounds, has been opened at Portland to allow of big ocean liners to load.
