Patba, February 11. The Harbour Board election yesterday for the Patea sub-division , resulted : Rossiter 192, McKenna 188, Matthews 99. Waverley sub-division— George Johnston 52," O. Symes 43.
TRADES AND. LABOUR COUNCIL.

Rbbfton, February 10.
The Westland Trade and Labour Council resolved to urge the Government to legislate that an inspector of mines be tompelled to give 14 days' notice of his intention to allow Sunday work in mines ; that the Workmen's Wages Act be amended to allow the Union to sue for wages due to members; that labor organisations have direct representation on the Harbour Boards of the colony; that the Government be asked to make eight hours on five days a week and four on Saturday a compuleory day's work where labour is required ; that the Government introduce a referendum bill; that a vote of the people be taken on the question of abolishing the Legislative Council ; and that the payment of jurors be equal to the amount earned by jurors at their trade or profession. The next meeting will be held at Westport in February, 1903.
