MANAIA.

The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Manaia Lodge -was held on Tuesday night, Bro. H. Hill, N.Gm P««Wing. P.C.S. Bro. Bellringe^and D.tr.M. J3ro. Fitten were in attendance, and gave addresses. Resolved, That the lodge Bopports tbe formation of the diatriot benevolent fund. Resolved, That widows of deceased members b& awarded sick pay, subject to their paying a weekly contribution to tne lodge. Various officers applied for degrees (which were conferred by the district officers). A committee was Bet up to arrange a iarewell to Bro. Cave. . , Mr J. J. Connell takes possession of the Manaia hotel to-day (Thursday). Mrs Tait is to be entertained at a tarewell social under the auspices of the Brass Band and local Football Club, , she having been always to the fore in assisting these institutions in the past. The new shooting range, Sutherland road, will be officially opened on Friday week, Mr MoGuire havin? been asked to- fire the first shot. Prizes will be donated, the band in attendance, and afternoon tea and refreshments provided by the ladies. Mr P. S. Peacock's motor cycle has arrived, and Mr Peacock is busy putting the machine together.' The following have been chosen to represent Manaia at Hawera Bowling Tournament on Friday :— Lewis (skip), Armitage,Hair, Peacock, P. Jury (skip), Hill, Oorrigan. Hodgson, A. T. Jury (Bkip), Raine, Bennett, Franklin. A few people \from the Plains journeyed to New Plymouth to-day on the occasion of the excursion to the marine resort. , . Mr Ward, the new manager of the Bank of Australasia, has arrived in town. Mr Halcombe leaves for Feuding shortly. , , , - , Whilst two little girls (daughters of Mr J. J. Patterson) were driving along the main street on Thursday, in attempting to turn, they locked tbe buggy, capsizing and throwing the occupants out on to the road, but with no serious results. The buggy is now in the hospital. _____
