ELTHAM.

(FROM OUR RESIDENT AGENT.)

A meeting was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening, to consider the matter of forming a fire brigade. There were about 20 present, and Mr C. Fitch was voted to the chair. The question of ways and means was discussed, and it was decided to place a proposal before the Borough Council, and, in the event of the latter body agreeing to it, the services of the brigade will be at the Council's disposal. Yesterday, Mr J. W. Deem, Stock Inspector, purohased about a dozen horses for South Africa. A large number of animals of a really good stamp were offered, but many were rejected after careful consideration. February 6.
