POLITICAL RETIREMENTS.

Weak aB the Opposition in Parliament now is, it appears that it will be weaker still in the next House. Two men, who aro in fact prominent Oppositionists, whatever they may be in name, have this week announced their retirement — Mr John Hutoheson, of Wellington, and Mr Pirani, of Palmerst)n North. Both graduated in the Liberal camp, but disapproving of the administrative acts of the Seddon Government, became members of what is known as the Left Wing, and while supporting the gener 1 legislative policy of the Government were, nevertheless, incisive critics, particularly the latter. Mr Pirani will be particu larly missed, for he is a thorough hard worker, and a most insistent, brainy man There are few whom the Premier will be more gad to be rid of, but in the public interest it is a pity that so capable a critic of affairs should be lost to Parliament,
