OPUNAKE.

(fro^i our own correspondent.)

The new Presbyterian Church in King street is now quite complete. Before New Year the building was opened for service, but was not then finished. The building is 30ft x 22f b, with sloping floor from front to back. There are two sets of principals nicely shaped and chamfered, and decorated in two colours, the roof is sarked with matched purlins, which are chamfered, and the walla are lined vertically with 4in alternate kauri and rimu, and oiled, a cornice moulding finishing the top. The windows in sides and front are Gothic, and glazed with obscured glass, and having the top light to open inward by means of screw adjustments. The window in the pulpit end is a handsome triple Gothic of fancy plate glass in two colours. A neat platform is enclosed with turned railings. A porch 10 x 8 is erected in front, with a door at each side, and a pair of folding doors into church. The outside is plainly but neatly finished ; a nicely proportioned spire surmounts the front gable. * The doors and sashes are grained oak, all the rest being plainly painted. Mr Sims had the contract for the building, and has succeeded in turning out a good job, and satisfying all concerned, Mr Bitson did the painting and decorating in his usual faultless manner, Mr Hodgson carried out the plumbing, and Mr A. O'Brien acted as architect for the Trustees, who are to bo congratulated on the successful carrying through of the undertaking, which I understand is practically free of debt.

The Gairloch worked here this morning discharging and taking on cargo with quick despatch. January 30.
