Mr C. E. Major, mortgage agent, reports that lateßt advices from Home show a slightly easier tendenoy in the London money market. The way in whioh the recent loan issued by Cape Colony was received is significant of the improvement. As far as the colonial money markets are concerned, matters remain in practically the same state aB- they have for some months past. The supply of capital continues sufficient to meet all demands from borrowers. Business locally haa been interrupted by the Christmas and New Year holidays, and it is only within the last week or two. that matterß have settled down into their normal Btate.' I have considerable sums of money awaiting invest* ruent at rates ranging from 4£ to 6£ per cent, varying with the amount borrowed and security offered.
