Wellington, January 26. Speaking at a social last night, tbe Premier said that as fast as money was voted by Parliament it was expended, and public works would cease until further appropriations were made. The press might agitate as it liked, but the Government would not spend a shilling more than was deemed prudent over and above the appro , priations by Parliament. The vote for the Helensville North railway was overspent by JG2540, that for the StratfordKawakawa by J62568, and for BlenheimWaipara by J64500.
