OPUNAKE NOTES.

(FROM A CORRESPONDENT.)

A deputation from the Chamber of Commerce, consisting of Messrs Moore and Guy, waited on the School Committee to urge the necessity for a District High School for Opunake. The School Committee received the suggestion favourably, and passed the following resolutions :— (1) That it is desirable that a District High School be formed in Opunake ; (2) That the Chairman be instructed to communicate with other Committees in the district, and ask them to ascertain what number of pupils would be likely, to attend from each school district.

It is pleasant to observe that our leading townsmen are taking an interest in educational matters at last, and are bent on securing for the children of this district those educational' advantages which other districts have been eager to secure. The action of the Chamber shows that it is alive to the necessity for action, and that our State education is not to be allowed to drift intq abeyance, but that the interests of the State school children will be advanced and safeguarded as they should be.
