WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above body began last evening, wben there were present : Messrs G. S. Bridge (chairman), W. Oorry, R. A. Adams, J. W. Baker, F. Pirani, M.H.E., F. Y. Lethbridge, M.H.R., and Rev. J. Ross.

The following appointments were made : —

Meremere, — Appointment of Mr L. W. Bassett confirmed. Momohaki.— Appointment of Miss Farr confirmed. Eltbam. — Appointment of Mies K. Gordon as second assistant confirmed.

Normanby. — Miss T. Casey appointed pupil teacher. Patea.— Mr S. Poole appointed pupil teacher.

Wbenuabura. — Appointment of M'ss M. A. T. Small as assistant confirmed.

Okaiawa. — Appointment of Mies Crowhurst as mistress confirmed.

Waverley.— Miss A. Fisher appointed pupil teacher.

EIGHTH CONTINGENT.

It was resolved to accept the resignations of Messrs G. G. Bullock (Wanganui Boys'), F. Johnston (Waverley), and F. 0. Baikes <Te Kiri), and to inform them that on their return the Board will endeavour to find appointments forjibem.

PROMOTIONS AND TRANSFERS.

It was decided that, with two exceptions, the promotions and transfers of teachers in the Board's service date from January Ist, and that the appointment of teachers from other districts date from February Ist.

SINGING.

On the motion of Mr Pirani, it was decided to ask all women teachers in 'the employ of the Board whether they can teach singing to infants.

SUMMER SCHOOL.

It was resolved to pay the railway fares of a probationer and cadets wbo are {attending the Summer School, and the chairman was empowered to arrange about the payment of the railway fares of those teachers wbo travelled to Wanganui before the 17th or after the 18th of January.

It was resolved to make another application to the Education Department for the establishment of a District High School at Patea, and to state that there are 22 children who have passed Standard VI., 17 who have passed Standard V.. and five wbo have passed Standard IV. who will attend a District High School.

ELTHAM.

It was resolved to apply to the Education Department for the establishment of a District High School at Eltbam, and to state that 19 children over Standard VI., five over Standard V., and four over Standard IV. will attend.

ALTERATION OF BOUNDARY.

It was decided to inform the Education Department that the Board obiects to the proposed alteration of the northern boundary of the Wanganui District.

HAWERA TECHNICAL SCHOOL.

It waß resolved that the Board cannot grant the Instructor two years' leave of absense (to enable him to go to England to prosecute his studies), but will accept bis resignation, and on bis return will endeavour to find an appointment for him.— Chronicle.

The Australian Students' Christian Union meeting was brought to a close on Monday.

Owing to a threatened shortage in the supply, the Auckland City Council has decided to have the water turned off from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. every night.
