VOLUNTEER CAMP.

DuriDg Sunday, the Hawera Rifle Volunteers' Camp in the Recreation Ground was visited by many townspeople. In the morning, the corps, under command of Captain Major, and Lieutenants Pacerson and Payne, bad a church parade, the men, headed by the Borough Band, marching to St. Mary's. The Rev. J. A. Jacob preached an appropriate sermon. In the afternoon, the Band played some selections to the evident enjoyment of a large number of visitors.

The men have done some useful work since going into camp.

The camp arrangements are giving satisfaction.

There are about 50 men in camp, which is comfortable and well sheltered. The cooking department is under Mr J. B. Atkins, and the men express full satisfaction.

On Saturday night the men had exercise in duties and formation of advanced and rear guards. There is company drill each morning from 5.30 to 6.45. During the rest of the time instruction will be given in outpost duty, striking and pitching tents, extended order drill, and company in attack. Guard is mounted each night to give the men practice in duties of sentries.

On .Wednesday evening the Band have offered to play in camp.

Competitions between the sections are also being arranged for the same evening. *
