CONTRACTS.
Brisbane, January 27* I The Premier disagrees with Mr Beddon over the manner in which the meat contracts have been allotted, and that they were due to influence of capitalists interested in tbe Argentine. Mr Philp believes that if the conditions were equal, Australia would have got the preference. It appears that Australian firms only undertook to deliver meat at ports in South Africa, whereas the syndicate will carry it to the various centres inland. Mr Philp ridicules the idea that meat could not be supplied from Australia. There is plenty of beef and mutton available. It is expected that Queensland will get a share of the contracts taken up by the> syndicate, as one of the largest Queensland firms is a member of the syndicate-
