Auckland, January 26. A serious fire occurred at Ponsonby, whereby Kelly and Powell's grocery store was totally destroyed, and the premises of Owen Pierce, butcher, and Charles Goodwin, draper, were partly destroyed.

Kelly and Powell have lost everything, including books. .

Goodwin had £1,700 worth of drapery in stock.

Myers, chief officer of the steamer Ngunguru, rented the back portion of Kelly and Powell's premises as a dwelling, but his family were away from home, and have lost all.

Insurances are :— Goodwin's two-storeyed shop in the Royal for £200, stock and furniture nninsured, estimated loss being £2000. Kelly and Powell's stock £100 in the Viotoria ; Myers, furniture and effects, £100 in the New Zealand.

The cause of the firb is unknown.

Hellaby Brothers owned Pierces, Myers', and Kelly and Powell's premises, but the insurances are not available.
