TARANAKI TENNIS TOURNAMENT.

The Taranaki Tennis Association held their annual tournament at Waverley on Wednesday and Friday. Play commenced at 9.30 on Wednesday in beautiful weather, and a great deal of very good play was shown. The courts, it should be said, were in fine order, and played splendidly.

On Wednesday the attendance was satisfactory, but as it rained on Thursday, play had to be postponed, and a good number, of both players and spectators, had to leave before Friday.

Mr C. Nicholson, of Waitotara, won the men's champion singles, after a good fight with Mr Tuke, of New Plymouth, who, howevei*, showed great form.

Miss Powdrell easily won the ladies' champion singles, and she and Mrs G. V. Pearce had a very close game with Mrs Payne and Miss Cave for the champion doubles, but they were eventually beaten after a deuce in the games. Miss Fussell won the ladies' handicap singles, and she and her partner got the handicap doubles.

The men's champion doubles was easily won by Mr T. Dickie and Mr Wallace. The Waverley ladies entertained their visitors most hospitably.
