MAJOR-GENERAL BABINGTON.

HIS OPINION OF NEW ZEALANDERS.

(PEB PRBSS ABSOOATIION.)

Wellington, January 24. At a luncheon on board the troopship Surrey, replying to the toast of his health, General Babington said he could speak from experience of New Zealanders and of Imperial forces. He had had the honour of commanding New Zealand's Fourth Contingent in South Africa, and had found the men of the best, and never heard a word other than of praise of any of New Zealand's contingents. Any British officers who had had the good fortune to command New Zealanders were always afterwar da anxious to have them under them.
