Commenting on Viscount Cranhome's statements in the Commons with reference to the action of Great Britain in connection with the SpanishAmerican war, New York newspapers declare that England was actively friendly to America, Russia and Italy were indifferently friendly, Austria and France were actively hostile, and Ger« many mischievously hostile. Nevertheless, except in American naval circles, there was no bitter anti-German sentiment.
