Cattle : At Stratford, on Tuesday, owing probably to the farmers being busy with haymaking, etc., fewer cattle than usual were yarded. There was fair enquiry for most lines, big steers showing a decided improvement in values. There were not many- weaners yarded, but mostly all were sold at the hammer. Most lines of small steers were passed in, but were nearly all placed afterwards. Good weaners made 27s ; 15 to 18-month Bteers, L 2 14s to L 2 17s ; two and a-half to three year do., L 3 12s 6d to L 4; heifers in calf, L 3 10s to L 3 11s 6d ; store cows, L3to L 3 10s ; fresh do., L 3 17s.

At Stony River, on Wednesday, the yards were fairly filled with mostly weaners. Bidding for these was not particularly brisk, though nearly all were sold, either at the hammer or afterwards. No big steers or heifers came forward. Weaners made 17s to 265 ; good calves, 26s to 32s 6d ; etore cows, L 3 to |L 3 15s ; Fat do., L4ssto L 5 ss ; springing heifers, L 3 12a 6d to hi 7s.
