The absence of English cables is sup* posed to be due to the block of the wires caused by the death of the Qaeen. Received January 25, 0.18 a.m. Melbourne, January 25. Compared with 1899, the imports show an increase of £848,000. Tbe gold and silver bullion imported decreased by £1,384,000, but merchandise increased by £1,688,000. Tbe exports decreased by £1,145,000. The decrease in wool was £1,574,000, wheat £859,000, sheep skins £184,000, bullion I and specie £289,000. Other goods increased by £1,246,000, bringing down the net decrease. Brisbane, January 25. The total value of the exports of the colony last year was £9,072,000, a •decrease of nearly two millions compared with previous year. The imports amounted to £7,052,000, an increase of £400,000 over the preceding year. The export of sugar fell from £1,168,000 to £666,000, and the wool export decreased by £1,182,000.Received January 25, 9.20 a.m. ' Brisbane, January 25. The issue of patriotic stamps was a failure, and resulted in a loss of £126. Perth, January 25. The Premier invited Mr Seddon to visit Perth. Mr Seddon replied that he was unable to do so, as he had to return to New Zealand immediately.
