BADEN-POWELL PRAISES AUSTRALIANS.

Received October 9, 9.10 a.m.

Melbourne, October 9.

General Baden- Powell, in a letter to the Commandant of the Victorian forces, Major-General Downes, says : "My Australians are first-rate ready-made soldiers. They are keen, cheery, and most amenable to discipline. * They have had a very rough, hard lime, with very little compensation in the shape of fair. Equare fights, but they have made a reputation for patient endurance of hardships, for dash and gallantry. Their scouting is excellent."
