Sydney, October 8.

No reply has yet been reoeived to Sir W. J. Lyne's protest against New Zealand's Pacific annexation.

Mr McMillan, a former Cabinet Minister, regards New Zealand's action as a deep laid scheme to force a commercial treaty with the Commonwealth without any political connection with her Pacific trade.

In his opening address to the Chambers and Manufacturers' Conference, the presideut said that such a step as New Zealand proposed would- interfere with the existing Australian interests. If New Zealand was allowed to take the Islands, then the door should be eft open to Australian trade.
