OPERA HOUSE "POPS."
The second of the Wanganui syndicate Company's " Pops " was given last evening, in the Opera House, when a good programme was gone through. Mr Charles Naylor was the hero of the evening, being very funny in all his songs and sketches, every one of which was re -demanded. Mr James Driscoll gave a skilful slack-wire exhibition, and Mr Jack Sheldon sang and threw somersaults with freedom. Madam Naylor played the overtures nicely, and also acted as accompanist. Misses Wynne and Clifford earned approval in their respective solos, which were encored. Messrs Daulton and Fenton were also successful, the latter especially so. The farces were diverting, that in which Messrs Naylor and voss sustained Ihe chief characters being the best. On the whole, the entertainm nt was well up to the average, and it is a pity that the support accorded was such as to deter the management from continuing giving performances in Hawera. Between the acts, Mr Voss announced that on Wednesday next a benefit concert would be given to Mr Robert Stynes, late musical director of the Henry Dramatic Company, when, under the patronage of the Mayor, the Patea and Hawera amateurs would submit a fine programme. Some fourteen years ago, Mr Stynes had been a partner oi his (Mr Voss), but had been stranded in New Zealand through no fault of his own, and as he had a wife and family in Australia was naturally anxious to get back to his home. The cause was a genuinely deserving one, and he hoped there would be a bumper honse. Mi Naylor and himself would contribute £2 2s.
