ELTHAM.
• . (FROM OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.? A farewell social was given in the Athenaeum last (Thursday) night to Mr. W. McDonald, who is about leaving Eltham to take up his residence in Palmerston North. It must have been gratifying to Mr McDonald to see such a large gathering assembled, nearly all denominations being represented. The moderator for tho district, Rev, W. Philip, occupied the chair. Speeches were given by several gentlemen, after which a very enjoyable programme of vocal and instrumental music was gone through. Mr McDonald then, in am appropriate speech, thanked those* I present for the kindness they had. shown him. The evening was con- \ eluded by a supper provided by the* ladies.
