In the Assembly, Mr Thomson asked whether, in the event of New Zealand annexing the Cook Islands Group, the Islands would come within the New Zealand tariff, or be an open dotr to all the colonies; also whether the Premier would take action with a view to preventing the further attachment of the Pacific Islands to any individual colony until after the establishment of Federation. Sir W. J. Lyne, in reply, said he considered the mutter a serious one. New South Wales had given instructions to-day to prepare a cable, representing to the Imperial Government that New South Wales was opposed to New Zealand acquiring the Islands.
