In the Kingswinford election Colonel Webb, Tory, succeeds the Bight Hon, A. 8. Hill. Received October 2, 10.15 p.m. Sydney, October 2.

Sir W. J. Lyne informed the Tasmanian Premier that he has communicated with several Premiers in reference to the proposed message to Mr Chamberlain, congratulating him re South Africa, but the majority were of opinion the message would be injudicious at the present time. The following message from the Right Hon. J. Chamberlain to the nation is displayed on a lime-light screen upon * whiob the results of the pollings are shown. "Patriotism, before politics t May the union between the colonies and the Motherland now cemented by their blood be ever maintained."

Speaking in the oountry, Mr Chamber* lain declared that never had there been an issuo of more vital importance to the future prosperity and existence of the nation before electors than, the present one. He added that the aid given by the colonies must be reciprocated whenever they were insulted or oppressed.

Pollings resulted in the election of members for the following constituencies : — Devonport, Exeter, Durham, Wigan, Rochdale, Lynn Regis, Reading, Preston, Peterborough, Weßtham South, Westbam North.

Eleoted unopposed : Faversham, Captain J. Howard, Conservative; Here* ford, Mr Abel Smith, Conservative; Kerry East, Mr J. Murphy, Nationalist ; Tipperary South, Mr J. Cullinan, Nationalist.
