WELLINGTON TRAMWAYS.

(PER f BESS ASSOCIATION.)

Wellington, October 1.

All the formalities in connection with taking over the city tram service by the City Council from the present owners took place to-day. A cheque for £619,382 was handed by the Mayor to Dr. Grace.

All the available trams were placed on the lines, and everybody had the privilege of riding free. Crowds of children took advantage of this, and cars were crowded for some hours by the youngsters, who thoroughly enjoyed the latitude allowed them.
