TO THI BDITOR. Sir,— l am pleased Mr McCarthy admits that he received notice from Mr Woolmer, but lawyer-like hides himself behind the legal quibble, official notice. I say, sir, that any man connected with or having the interest of the association at heart should not wait for official notice. Apart from this I am informed that the secretary sent him notice. I know nothing about Mr McCarthy's private business nor do I wish to ; neither am I aware that the election of a member of the County Council is private business. In a previous letter Mr McCarthy stated that had he been present at the meeting it may have made all the difference. Well, Mr Editor, under any stretch of imagination I fail to see' how Mr McCarthy's presence could have affected the decision arrived at, as Mr Major received a majority of two votes, except by Mr McCarthy's eloquence and persuasive powers he could make a convert, and then by giving his casting vote in favor of the candidate whom he wished to support. lam informed that a permanent chairman was not appointed ; presumably Mr McCarthy is under the impression that none of the members were competent to fill the chair during his absence. — I am, &c, Enquirer.
