THE BANQUET TO MR C. E. MAJOR.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Inflated probably by mutual admiration, so prominent, in the speeohes, the speakers lost sight of a few tacts which are patent to lookers-on. For instance, when the chairman said that " those who had battled in the last election had prepared an address and signed it so that Mr Major could have before him a few of the names of those who had worked so hard .for him," he mußt have forgotten that at least one of those signing was engaged officially on the chief committee of Mr McGuira, and the guest in replying, when speaking of "renegades," could not surely have known that the gentleman presiding had attended a meeting of Mr Bobbins' supporters, subsequently one of those of Mr McGuire when he was placed on that gentleman's committee, and finally worked for Mr Major and thus earned his tucker at the banquet. — Yours, etc., Cms.
