Education Board.
The Wanganui Education Board met on Monday evening. Present— Messrs Carson (chairman), Sanson, Baker, Fry, Bobbins, Lethbridge, Hurley, Pirani, and Rev J. Ross. APPOINTMENTS. Scholarships— lt was resolved that senior scholarships be awarded to Frances Jacobsen, Wanganui Girls' College; Gilbert H. Dive, Hawera; Thomas Patterson, of College Street, Palmerston North. Junior scholarships were awarded to Wm Smith, Hawera ; S. Fitzgerald, College Street, Palmerston ; William Cunningham, Wanganui Boys' School, and it waa resolved that the balance of £20 be offered to G. W. H. Maunder, of Matapu. CONDOLENCE. It was resolved that a letter of condolence be sent by the chairman to Mr and Mrs Crowhurst, expressive of the board's deep regret at the sad death of their daughter. SCHOLARSHIP EXAMINATIONS. On the motion of Mr Sansen it was resolved that the inspector be requested to make arrangements for holding a scholarships examination at Palmerston, Wanganui and Hawera, commencing December, 1897, provided that seven candidates at least shall have signified their intention to present themselves at each of the centres." MODTOA (AIDED). Letter recommending Mr Jas Ranks as teacher; approved. MANAIA. Resolved to transfer Mary Bourke to Manaia. — Chronicle.
