WELLINGTON, June 26.
Sixteen frequenters of Burkes gaming saloon were find £5 or a month. In passing sentence, the Magistrate said be had no doubt that eaoh of the defendants in giving evidence in Burkes caso had committed deliberate perjury, and had concooted the story before be went into the witness box. The stigma io tbe present case would stick to them all their lives, and if ever any one of them came before him to give evidence in a civil or criminal oase be would not believe a word they uttered — in fact, would not hang a dog on their evidence. The magistrate refused the request of defendants' counsel for a month in whiob to pay the fine, bat would allow a week.
