The French commander reports that the islands in tbe Gulf of Siam, whiob have bsen oocupied, are of strategic importance, as they afford good anchorage and storage. The French failed to occupy the left bank of the Mekong. It if ezpeoted that gunboats will ascend the Menam, on which the capital is situated, and that the coast will be blockaded. Tbt Europeans in Bangkok are getting excited.

It will be seen by an advertisement elsewhere that a grand series of pigeon matches is to take place at Ketemarae, the first on 21st July. The match w» take the form of a handicap sweepstake of not less than 20 subscribers at 20« each : seven birds ; the first prize being 70 second 20, and third 10 per oeatof the stake.
