CORRESPONDENCE.

«, — — POST AND TELEGRAPH REGULATIONS. To the Editor of the Star. Sir,-— On Qaeen'a Birthday the Manaia Telegraph Office was open from 9 to 10 a.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. On presenting a telegram addressed to Opunake for transmission in the forenoon, I was informed that it could not go, as Opunala office was closed all day. Now, Ido not object to Opunake being closed for the holiday, as I think Government officials in country pose offices are entitled to such holidays as Queen's Birthday, &c. ; but what seems absurd to me is keeping Manaia open ! Again, as far as I could see from the Postal Guide there are only Foxton, Hawera, Manaia, and Pnngarefau offices, besides chief offices, open from 7 to 8 p.m. ; and what earthly reason .. there 1 is for keeping Manaia open between those hours is quite a puzzle tome. Manaia residents should no doubt feel flattered at being classed with those budding cities, but the postmaster might have his evening with* out ioflioting any inconvenience on any one, and I do not suppose the revenue will Buffer very much. — I am, &0., „ Telegeam. Manaia, May 26th. •
