Eltham Road West.

(FROM OXJR OWN OOBREBPONDENT.I Mr McGuire, M.H.R., addressed a meeting of hie constituents at the,' Awatnna schoolroom on Friday, 19th inst. About 50 electors were present. Mr. G. Wataon was voted to the chair. Mr McGuire was accorded a good reception; his address was much on the same lines as those previously reported at other centres. Several questions were asked ond answered satisfactorily. A resolution expressing regret at tbe death of tue Hon. J. Ballance, and sympathy with Mrs Ballance, was carried unanimously, At tbe conclusion of the address Mr Rawstron moved, and Mr Moloney seconded, a vote or thanks to Mr McGuire for hie address, and confidence in him as our representative. This was carried unanimously. A vote of thanks to tbe chairman concluded the meeting. , Travellers on the Eltham road will be glad to bear that tbe dangerous crossing of the Punehu is about to be bridged. At present it is only passable on horseback, and at nigbt time is anything but safejor those unaccustomed to tbe road. It, is to be hoped tbat the Council will | push on tbe work so tbat it will be completed before the dairy factory ' season commences. : The weather is unusually mild and ' warm^for this season of tbe year, and ' Btock of all kinds are looking well with ' abundance ot grass, ! Mr &emp, I b,esr, has sold out his \ section on this pad to Mr Bryan, of : Opunake, at a very satisfactory figure. Mr Kemp has always taken a *reat interest in all matters likely to advance t or benefit the district, and bis departure will be very much regretted, as tbe ? number who take an interest in those J matters, is, I regret to say, very small indeed. ?
