EGMONT FARMERS UNION (Ltd.) REPORT.

Haweea. April 6.

Our Stratford. sale was held on Thursday, the 30th ult., being a day earlier than usual on account of Good Friday, and to this also may be attributed the fact that the sale was a very dull one from start to finish. We had our advertised number of cattle, but the public were not well represented, and those present did not seem disposed to purchase, so that several of the lines returned home unsold. We quote : 2 to 2i-year steers £% 7s to\£4 lls, mixed weaners 26s 6d to 335, 1 to 2-year steers £2 Is to £3 3s, cows in calf £3 5s to M 17s 6d.

There was considerable flatness experienced at our Hawera saje^oa Wednes--day, the sth inst. The yards were crowded with both cattle and sheep, and a large number of persons were present. Bidding was exceedingly slow, and but little business was done at the hammer, though afterwards a good many lines of stock changed hands at considerably under sale reserves. We have to report a drop of from 2s 6d to 10s per head on cattle during tte past fortnight, though prime quality beef is still on a par with our previous quotations. We quote: fat and forward bullocks £5 to £6 15s, 1 to 2-year steers £2 Is to £Z 14s, -wearers 27s to 375, fat cows £A4atoM 10a; Sheep : 2-tooth ewes 11s 3d, 2-tooth wethers 10s to 11s, woolly lambs^Ss 4d.
