Opunake Weslayan Circuit.
(PBOM A COBBESPONDENT.)
The quarterly meeting of the Opunake Wesleyan circuit officials was bold in tbe Wesleyan Church, Opunake, on 28th Marob. Present — Rev. Mr Beecroft (chairman), and nine representatives. As the balance-sheet showed receipts to be £1 38 in excess of expenditure, tbe circuit debt, which had been such a burden for eight years, was entirely removed. Reports of the various Sunday schools were, on the whole, enoouraging. The chairman repotted that £112 had been promised towardstparsonage, and that all except £5 had been collected and banked. It was decided to try to get another £50 or as poseible, and then apply for grant 'frdnijbnildjupg and loan fund. A committee of ladies was appointed to assist the circuit stewards and trustees in furnishing the parsonage. The meeting being informed that the Anglican friends at Otakebo would soon be holding services in the new ohnrch, and would require their harmonium, it was decided to offer them, as heretofore, half cost of repairing and tuning same. The meeting, was encouraged to hear that notwithstanding tbe unfavourable weather and .other drawbacks, the recent I bazaar in Opunake had netted nearly £50 for pewiog tbe ohurob and reduoing the trust debt.
Unanimous regret was expressed that after many years' straggle to extinguish circuit and other debts, a new financial liabilit yshonld be incurred on acoount of removal expenses, when the circuit was wishful to retain its minister, and he waß not unwilling to remain. Doubt was expressed as to whether sufficient consideration was given by conferenco to the difficulties of outlying oirouitßi where the number of declared Wesleyans is so limited.
