SPORTING.

OEO RACES.

ITeident.J

This annual fixture will he held tomorrow. The course is situated, on Mr. Shove's farm (who is the energetic hon. sec. to the club). There is every probability of big fields facing the starter, judging by the number on the cardnine for the Flying ; seven in Hurdles ; eight for Oeo Handicap ; twelve for the Electric Stakes ; and ten for the Welter. Enoughand to spare to make an interesting day's sport; and since communication, both north, and south, has been re-established, I have no doubt there will be a representative gathering at this popular coastal race meeting. The cours e is in fairly good order, and some provision, has been made this year to enable visitors to get a view of the running. Proceedings open with the Flying, aud I don't see what is to beat Bonovobee or Chattebbox G-oldenlock ran a good mare at Waverley, but she has a lump more weight to carry at Oeo, and the daughter of Flintlock did not strike me as being a weight-carrier. Thunderbolt may get a place. The Hurdle Eace should be fought out between Karewa, Lord John and Nugget. The former is not nearly so good a horse as when he won at Egmont, and he has done nothing since. The distance will suit him, however. I should like to see him win, yet I must discard the Natator gelding, and will place them — Lobd John Kabewa Ntjgget

If Chatterbox is sent for the Flying, I shall give my vote in the Oeo Handicap to— •

lonic Chattebbox bonovobee Should Chatterbox be reserved for this event, he may beat the Taranaki horse, but I hardly think so. According to Mr. Henry's handicapping for Patea, Bonovoree should win the Oeo Handicap. Bonovoree is asked to carry 171b more at Patea than at Oeo, while Chatterbox has but 41b more, all the others engaged at these meetings getting less weight, varying from 14lb (Sunday School) down to 21b (Melas).

The Electric Stakes will require a lot of picking, as there are twelve candidates, and as likely as not the race may result in a big dividend ; but the half-dozen I prefer are Armour, Thunderbolt, Clipper, G-oldenlock, Centre, Darebin, and to reduce them to three, I will take — Daeebin Thunderbolt Clipper For the Welter, I prefer— lonic.

If my " tips" should eventuate,, it will be seen that the Taranaki horses will get the lion's share of the spoil, as they are tipped to win four events out of five. I certainly think they have a good show o£ annexing most of the prizes.

Acceptances and general entries for Patea races close on Saturday next, 25th instant, at 8 p.m. In the Patea Easter Handicap, Melas has been awarded lOst. I think it is very doubtful if the Patea folks will have the pleasure of seeing the Armourer horse ou their convincing ground. Melas will probably race at Woodville on the 29th instant, after which he will most likely be spelled for a time.
