The monthly meeting was held on Wednesday ; present — Messrs. Milroy (chair), Green, and Meuh.

Bank balance, cr., £166 9s Id.

W. Bach, tenant, wrote asking for a stile to be erected on cricket ground. Chairman reported the work had been previously authorised, and was now completed. J. J. Patterson's solicitor wrote asking the board for its ultimatum, and Mr. Patterson also attended. The opinion of a solicitor is to be taken on one or two points, and an answer given at next meeting of the board.

A. Williscroft and Walter Franklin wrote appling for a tenanoy at will of section 3, blook xvii. Both to be asked to state what they will give for it, the highest, if over the reserve, to have it.

The Church of England Trustees asked for a remission ot rates on ohuroh property, but as the land was not being used for the purpose of the church the request oould not be granted. A. Willißcroft asked permission to fence in a road which was impassable owing to two swamps. — Deolined. W. J. Full asked that some immediate steps be taken to have the swamp running through the town near Mr. Suisted's house, drained, so as to avoid the outbreak of an epidemic. The ohairman said that the matter would-, have to wait, bb the board oould not employ labor ac present), except at half as much again as the proper price. — Held over. R. Butler asked for an extension ot time by about three weeks witbin which to complete contract.— Granted. Domain rates were remitted.

Charles MoCarthy attended and asked the board to allow the preßß to publish the amounts of the tenders received, The Chairman Baid that they were always available as soon as contracts were signed, but not before.

Tenders were opened for gravelling, one ot which was accepted conditionally. Accounts— R. Butler 17s 6d, Postmaster 12s, Waimate Witness £1 19s 2d, Tarrant 18s 6d, clerk £2 15a, Syme £1 5s, Gold up 12s, Cullen 12s, Matheson 12s 6d, Budge 6s 4d. There was no meeting of the Domain Board.
