An Extraordinary Case.

A GIRL IN SUCCESSIVE TRANCES.

(Post Correspondent.)

MELBOURNE, January 28. A girl of 17, residing with her parents at Adelaide, has been in a trance since last Thursday— ten days. She had not been well for years, suffering slightly from hysteria. On 20th October she went to bed and fell into a trance, whioh lasted till 31st October. On 17th.November she had a relapse, and slept continuously till 24th November. On 12tb January a third attack took possession of her, and she lived for ten days between life and death. It was found impossible to arouse her by ordinary means, and even a strong electrical current applied to the Boles of her feet took some minutes to effeot any change—in once three and in another six minutes elapsing before the oatient gave signs of feeling the shook. By electrioity alone was her medical attendant able to sufficiently arouse the girl for a little while, so that be could force her to take nourishment in liquid form. When she woke up she was conscious of all that had taken place, but devoid of feeling in her legs below tbe knees, and in her arms, neck, and chest.
