New Zealand Educational Institute.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, January 11. At the Educational Institute to-day, Mr. Grundy, speaking in favor of the establishment of a Court of Appeal for teaobers, said at present teachers bad absolutely no security of tenure, and much as the Edncational Department migh desire to remedy matters under the existing administration of the Act a remedy could not be found. He concurred with tbe proposal that the boards should be approached on the subject, and be believed that tbe majority of them would fall in with the idea. It was eventually deoided to approach tbe Educational Boards on the subject. It was resolved to strongly urge tbe Education Department the desirability of establishing a fund for the assistance of the ' aged and infirm. The statement of receipts and expenditure of tbe Institute for the past year showed a credit balance lof £57 15s lid. Beßolutions were passed recommending that freedom of classification be tried in sohools as far as and inclusive of Standard III ; requesting tbe Minister of Education to consider the possibility.of making the standard examinations uniform throughout the various educational districts of New Zealand ; and expressing the opinion that the objects arrived at by those who wiuh to establish a Teaohers' Union can be best gained by extending and strengthening the existing New Zealand Educational Institute. It was decided to hold the next meeting of the Counoil at Nelson on 9th January, 1894. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year — President, E. Cowles, Nelson; Seoretary, W. T. Grundy, Wellington; Treasuer, H. Worthington, Auckland.
