LONDON, January 8.
Sir E. C. Hamilton, ex-Governor of Tasmania, has arrived in England. The Marquis of Bipon, Secretary of State for the Colonies, has been awaiting his arrival in order to oonsult him prior to appointing his suocessor. The protest received from the other Australian colonies has proved fatal to tbe appointment of a military Governor to Tasmania as suggested by General Edwards.
Mr. Joseph Chamberlain declares that this granting of autonomy to Ireland will compel the Imperial Government to give similar government to both Wales and Scotland, and thus destroy the Empire.
Mr. Bathbone, Liberal member lor Carnarvonshire, intends joining the "Cave of Adullam," of Sir Edward Eeed, M.P. for Cardiff who was recently expelled from membership of tbe Cardiff Irish National League, owing to a speech he delivered in December, warning Mr. Gladstone against Home Bale and the Parnellite section of tbe Honse. Mr. Eathbone is opposed to Home Rale.

Great Britain has sent an ultimatum to the Sultan of Morocco, at Fez, regarding tbe recent murder of British subjects, and 48 hours have been allowed to deoide on the question whether be will pay an indemnity.

A movement in favour of a Spanish Republic is largely extending, and its supporters have adopted a plan of campaign with the view of defeating the Ministry.

The members of the Immigration Committee endorse tbe Bill introduced into Congress by their chairman, Mr Chandler, providing that cripples, paupers and illiterate people be not admitted into the United States.
