MELBOURNE, December 1.
An unsuccessful attempt was made to wreck the Adelaide express train by placing a trolly on the line. Tins is the second attempt made near the same spot.
In connection with pushing on the construction of railways, tbe Government intend to submit to Parliament a proposal to float the nece&sary loan locally.
Professor Allen has examined the human limbs found at Hawthorne, and he deolares they belong to a person of 50 years of age who had frequently suffered from gout, and also that the limbs were cut off after death by a person who did not possess special knowledge of anatomy. Death, he believes, occurred about eight days ago.
The investigation into the affairs of the Mercantile Bank of Australasia will, it is expected, be completed this week. If there are sufficient grounds for prosecution, informations will be laid against directors, and tbe Government will be called upon to carry on the prosecution.
